Kate Winslet is an actress who has won six Academy Awards and many other awards for her works. She has gained a reputation for her talent at portraying a wide variety of characters and doing so with maturity and insight. She was born October 5th, 1975 in Reading, Berkshire. Her parents were struggling actors which meant that Winslet's life was not one of privilege. In addition to her parents, Winslet's grandparents were involved in acting through a theatre they founded and operated, her uncle was an actor and her two sisters are also actresses.
Kate Winslet's career as an actress started when she was 11 and began to study drama. By 12, she was appearing in TV ads and soon got small roles in TV series and movies. In 1992, Winslet was cast for the Peter Jackson film "Heavenly Creatures" in which her character helps kill her friend's mother. The film also featured Winslet singing a capella. Despite her young age, Winslet proved herself as a mature actress and received several awards for her performance. Afterwards, she got roles in the films "Sense and Sensibility" and, in 1996, in Jude and Hamlet.
However, it was the 1996 film "Titanic" which sent Kate Winslet to the spotlight and her career soaring. Since then, Winslet has received awards for her roles in films such as "Iris", "The Life of David Gale", "Quills", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", "Finding Neverland", "Little Children", "The Reader", and "Revolutionary Road". She is the youngest actor to receive six Academy Awards.
Winslet married director Jim Threapleton in 1998 and they have a daughter together. After their divorce in 2001, Winslet dated Sam Mendes. She married him in 2003 and they had a son together that same year.
