The birth of Maria Conchita Alonso was on June 29, 1957 in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Her parents are Ricardo Alonso and Maria Conchita Bustillo. Her family moved to Venezuela when she was 5 years old, year 1962. She took her first steps in show business when she was crowned "Miss Teenager Of The World" in 1971, and was also Miss World Venezuela in 1975 where she became 6th runner up in the Miss World pageant won by Puerto Rico's Wilnelia Merced; later on quickly became the next top model and a well known singer and actress in Venezuela.

For a great start, "Love Maniac" was her first album that made her got the heart of the crowd.After the moment she's been waiting,the album was thenreleased 1979 under the nickname of Ambar. Her album was recorded in English version and the songs were heavily influenced by Donna Summer and other disco music artists from that era. It's record label decided not to use Alonso's picture on the cover for the promo single and the release of the song was surrounded by mystery. The marketing strategy had paid off and the songs went to become a huge hit, topping the Venezuelan charts in September of that year.
